UAE Golden Visa for British nationals
British citizens qualify for the UAE Golden Visa on the same terms as everyone else. A UK passport does not lower the AED 2 million property test or the AED 30,000 skilled-salary test, and the visa-free travel that passport already has is not a Golden Visa benefit. DLD’s Dubai investor service still requires you inside the UAE, in person. THAJ prepares that Dubai file in English. We do not file it from London.
What does not change because the passport is British
ICP’s categories are not allocated by passport. Indian, Pakistani, British and Sri Lankan applicants use the same property, salary, business and student tests. There is no nationality price and no lifetime visa. In July 2025 ICP said reports of a lifetime Golden Residency for a number of nationalities were false, and that applications go only through official channels inside the UAE.

- A mortgaged Dubai property still needs the bank letter and the amount paid that DLD asks for. See mortgages.
- Joint names are not added together. A couple buying in both names should read joint ownership before they assume both qualify.
- Time outside the UAE follows the Golden Visa absence rule, which is about the UAE residence. It does not add countries to a British passport. See visa-free travel.
- RTA Dubai’s training waiver for Golden Visa holders applies whatever country issued the existing licence, so it can matter to a UK licence holder. It is a Dubai rule, on the driving licence page, not a reason to apply for the visa.
UK certificates
Marriage certificates, birth certificates and degrees issued in the UK have to be in the form the UAE authority accepts. DLD’s inheritance service, as the worked example on this site, requires foreign documents to be attested, including by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant embassy, and translated if they are not in Arabic. THAJ coordinates that attestation and quotes per document. We do not publish a sterling conversion. The dirham figures are the figures that decide the file.
If the property is not in Dubai, read other emirates first. THAJ’s licence and office are in Dubai. A British buyer of Abu Dhabi property still needs that emirate’s land department, which is not our counter.
Frequently asked questions
Can British citizens get the UAE Golden Visa?
Yes. The categories are the same as for other nationalities. There is no British quota and no British discount.
Can I apply without flying to Dubai?
You can prepare documents before you travel. DLD’s investor Golden Visa service requires the applicant inside the UAE and in person. A UK address does not replace that.
Does the Golden Visa improve a British passport?
No. It is a UAE residence permit. Visa-free travel you already have comes from the British passport, not from this visa.
Do you handle the move of a UK driving licence?
No. RTA and a driving institute do that. We only point at the RTA rule that mentions Golden Visa holders, and we do the residence if you qualify.
