Golden Visa and visa-free travel
A UAE Golden Visa does not give you visa-free travel on its own. It is a residence permit, not a passport, and the countries you can enter without a visa are decided by the passport you hold and by the destination. What the Golden Visa does change, on the u.ae page, is that you may stay outside the UAE for more than the usual six months that an ordinary residence visa needs in order to stay valid. THAJ will not publish a list of countries, because no official page we cite publishes one.
The passport still decides foreign entry
Airlines and foreign border posts look at the passport and at that country’s current rule for that nationality. A Golden Visa card in the same wallet does not amend the passport. Some destinations have their own shortcuts for people who already hold a UAE residence. Those shortcuts are published by the destination, they change, and they are not a benefit ICP lists for the Golden Visa. Copying a “150 countries” or “170 countries” claim from a sales page would invent a fact. This page refuses that claim.
The same answer is on what the Golden Visa is: it is not citizenship. Renewal is not naturalisation. If a seller offers a Golden Visa as a way to “get a stronger passport”, that is the same family of pitch ICP called false in July 2025 when reports of a paid lifetime visa circulated. Applications go through official UAE channels.
The travel rule that is real
u.ae says Golden Visa holders can stay outside the UAE for more than the usual period of six months needed to keep a residence visa valid. That is a rule about your UAE residence, not about Schengen, the United States, or anywhere else.
- The six-month comparison is with an ordinary residence. It is not a promise that a Golden Visa cannot expire.
- The position already cited on this site is that the permit is void if it expires while you are outside the UAE. Renew before that date. The detail is on time outside the UAE.
- ICP says eligible applicants abroad can receive a six-month multiple-entry visa to complete Golden Residency, renewable for another six months. That is how you come in to finish the file. It is not a travel document for other countries.
- A Green Visa is a different permit. Its guide does not copy this absence sentence. Do not assume it. See Green Visa vs Golden Visa.
Coming back to the UAE
Returning to the UAE depends on the residence still being valid, and on the entry rules in force when you fly. THAJ does not control airline acceptance or ICP’s desk at the airport. If you are about to be abroad for a long stretch, tell us the category and the expiry date before you go. If the property that qualified you is being sold while you are away, that is a selling question and it is separate from the absence rule.

Does the UAE Golden Visa give visa-free travel?

Why do other websites list 150 countries?
Those lists are not on the ICP or u.ae Golden Visa pages this site cites. THAJ does not repeat them.
Does a Green Visa have the same absence rule?
The Green Residence Guide does not say so. Use the Golden Visa rule only for a Golden Visa.
