UAE Golden Visa tax benefits and tax residency

The Golden Visa itself is a residence permit, not a tax status. Tax residency in the UAE follows Cabinet Decision No. 85 of 2022: you are a UAE tax resident if your usual residence and centre of interests are in the UAE, if you spend 183 days or more here in 12 months, or — as a UAE resident-permit holder — 90 days with a permanent home or job/business here. Salary, personal investment and real estate investment income are outside UAE corporate tax for individuals.

Frequently asked questions

Does a UAE Golden Visa make me tax-free?

Not automatically. The UAE does not tax individuals’ salaries, personal investment or real estate investment income under corporate tax, but your home country may still tax you depending on its own residency rules.

Do I need to spend 183 days in the UAE?

Not if you meet another test. A UAE residence-permit holder present 90 days or more in 12 months with a permanent home or job/business in the UAE is also a tax resident.

How do I prove UAE tax residency?

Apply to the Federal Tax Authority for a Tax Residency Certificate once you meet one of the tests in Cabinet Decision No. 85 of 2022.

Do I pay corporate tax on my rental income?

Real estate investment income of a natural person is outside the scope of UAE corporate tax, according to the FTA. Companies holding property are treated differently.
