UAE Golden Visa for nurses
A nursing job in the UAE does not automatically qualify for a Golden Visa. ICP’s healthcare-specialist route needs a recommendation from the relevant ministry or local authority. The skilled-professional route needs MOHRE level 1 or 2, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, a valid work permit and contract, and a monthly salary of at least AED 30,000. Many nursing contracts meet none of those tests. That is a reason to check, not a reason to pay for a filing.
Which published route can apply
Nursing is healthcare, so people assume the specialist route is automatic. It is not. The specialist route is a recommendation, and the salary route is a number plus a skill level. Either you can point at one of them, or you are looking at an ordinary employment visa.
| Route | What ICP publishes | What this page will not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Healthcare specialist nomination | Recommendation from the relevant ministry or local authority | That every licensed nurse is a “specialist” in the Golden Visa sense |
| Skilled professional | MOHRE level 1 or 2, degree, permit, contract, at least AED 30,000 a month | That overtime, housing or a lower basic salary can be quietly rounded up |
| Ordinary employment residence | The visa your hospital already sponsors | Calling that card a Golden Visa because the contract is long |
The only monthly salary figure on this page is the AED 30,000 ICP publishes for skilled professionals in MOHRE occupational levels 1 and 2, together with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a valid UAE work permit and contract. This page does not invent a salary for a job title.
If your basic salary is under AED 30,000 and you have no nomination letter, say so at the start. The useful answer may be to stay on the employment visa, or to look at a property route later, not to attest ten years of certificates for a category you do not meet. Eligibility for other routes is on the eligibility checker.
Signals that matter for nurses
Bring the contract, not the job advertisement.
Eligibility signals to gather before anyone files
- MOHRE level shown for the role. If it is not level 1 or 2, the salary route as ICP writes it is not open.
- Monthly salary on the contract, read against AED 30,000, if that is the route.
- Whether anyone has actually offered a nomination. A manager’s encouragement is not a recommendation letter.
- Degree level. The skilled route asks for a bachelor’s or equivalent. A diploma may be enough to nurse and not enough for that sentence.
- Current nursing licence, as employment evidence, not as a visa category.
- Whether you are the main applicant or a spouse. A spouse uses the family route, which does not need the nurse salary test.
THAJ will not publish a “nurse salary for Golden Visa” other than ICP’s general AED 30,000 skilled-professional figure. If your offer is below it, the skilled route is the wrong route.
Document themes
Document themes. The nominating authority can add to this.
- Passport, photo, and any current UAE residence visa or Emirates ID.
- Degree or nursing qualification, with attestation if the route needs it.
- Dataflow or licensing papers, only if the body you are asking has required them. They do not replace a missing nomination.
- Employment contract and work permit showing level and salary, for the skilled route.
- The recommendation letter, for the specialist route, naming you and the authority.
- Health insurance where the category requires it.
Where a UAE authority asks for attestation or legal translation, that paperwork is coordinated as PRO work. The nominating body can ask for more than this list.
How an application usually moves
Match a published category
Write down which ICP route you are using: a specialist nomination, the Emirates Scientists Council, or the skilled-professional test. Do not file under a job title alone.
Collect the evidence that route names
Passport, photo, the degree or recommendation the route actually requires, and health insurance where ICP lists it for that category.
Nomination or direct file
Specialist and scientist routes go through the competent council, ministry or local authority. The skilled-professional route needs the UAE work permit and contract in place.
Authority decision, then residence steps
Approval is the authority’s. After it, applicants abroad use the entry window ICP describes; residents change status. Then medical, biometrics and Emirates ID.
Medical fitness, biometrics and Emirates ID follow the same order as every other category. Read the application process and the rejections guide before you book travel around an approval you do not have yet.
Family, the job, and time outside the UAE
A Golden Visa holder can sponsor a spouse, children of any age and parents, and ICP also refers to domestic workers. Health insurance for family members is an investor-category condition and is wise to have ready for other categories too. The permit is not an employment visa tied to one sponsor: ending a job is not described on the ICP page we cite as an automatic cancellation, but renewal still means the category conditions are checked again. Time outside the UAE is covered on keeping the visa while abroad. Changing hospitals does not, on the ICP page we cite, automatically cancel a Golden Visa the way cancelling an employment visa cancels an employment residence. Keep the category evidence for renewal. Your licence to practise still has to move with the employer’s credentialing. That is not a visa step.
Frequently asked questions
Can nurses get a UAE Golden Visa?
Yes, if a published category is met: a healthcare nomination, or the skilled-professional test including MOHRE level 1 or 2 and at least AED 30,000 a month. The job title alone is not enough.
My salary is below AED 30,000. Can allowances be added?
This page will not add them. ICP states a monthly salary of at least AED 30,000 for the skilled route. Ask the authority before you treat housing or overtime as part of it, and do not let an agent invent a total.
Is a nursing licence enough?
No. It shows you may practise. It is not the Golden Visa category.
I am a nurse married to a Golden Visa holder. Do I use this page?
No. You are a family applicant. Use the family sponsorship guide. You do not need to meet the nurse salary test to be sponsored.
